HOW TO ADD YOUR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT TO SOCIAL WALL

Instagram has changed the way you use their API – actually you can’t use their native Instagram API anymore for some functions and they have forced developers and apps to use the Facebook Graph API. In particular, if you want to display specific Instagram hashtags then you must use the Facebook Graph API. The process of displaying Instagram profile posts and hashtags is a bit more convoluted now and we wanted to detail the steps on how to add your Instagram Account to Social Wall here. Before you add your Instagram account to Social Wall you must make sure you have completed the following:

Make sure you have an Instagram Business account. To check whether you have an Instagram business account open up the Instagram app on your mobile phone. Tap the menu button (3 bars). Tap on settings and scroll down to see whether you have a heading called Business Tab. If you don’t have this tab then you will see Switch to business account/Sign up for a business profile. Tap on those and follow the prompts.

Associate/Link your Instagram Business account to the Facebook Page. You need to have a Facebook Page setup and linked to the Instagram Business account. If you don’t have a Facebook Page for your business we suggest you create one. To check if they are linked login to the Facebook Page and click on Settings – Click on Instagram and you will see whether your Instagram profile information is linked. If it’s not linked, then follow the prompts to link it.

Steps to display your Instagram profile posts and Instagram hashtags

NOTE: Facebook/Instagram has restricted it’s Facebook API to only display hashtags within a 24 hour period. Meaning if you’re looking for a hashtag that is more than 24 hours it will not be there.

Click on the Instagram Tab

You will see the Log in With Facebook button

Make sure you are logged into Facebook and you’re using the account that is linked to the Facebook Page (as per the above checklist, make sure the Facebook Page is linked to the Instagram Business Account)

Click on the Log in With Facebook and a popup window will be displayed asking for Facebook access.

Press the blue Continue as xxx. NOTE: our app does not post to Facebook or Instagram

If you have multiple Facebook associated to your Facebook account select the correct one from the drop down list

If you want to display the Instagram Profile posts select “Display Profile posts”

If you want to display posts using a specific hashtag then type the hashtag keywords in the hashtag field (you can only type the hashtag once you have authenticated with your Facebook account)

Leave the post limit to 10. This is the number of posts to display from Instagram. The more posts, the longer it will take to display.

Click on Submit
Go back to the Account tab and then select Instagram from the list

Note, Facebook has set a specific limit to the number of Facebook Graph API calls for Instagram and therefore we suggest not to refresh your Social Wall to frequently e.g refresh every 30 minutes. If the limit is reached then Instagram posts will no longer be displayed

Remove Social Wall app from Facebook Page account

If you want to remove the Social Wall from your Facebook account, simply login to your Facebook account then click on setting and click on Business Integrations. You will see Social Wall as one of the app.
